I just read the other day that we now have the present illegitimate occupant of the Spite House pushing for a War on Drought, of all things. (I am reminded of King Canute's command that the tide stop coming in. A war on DROUGHT, forsooth! What is the Narcissist-in Chief going to do, send cruise missiles to bomb El Nino? Command the sunspot cycle to cease? Tell the National Weather Service to make it rain? The mind boggles...... I do wonder, however, what sort of perversion will come out of this new 'war' ) The overt idiocy of this newest so-called 'war' is hilarious, at least on the face of it, but what do all of these Progressive crusades have in common?
Not only are they all attempts to conceal the Progressive infringements upon our rights and Progressive arrogation of power, but the bad consequences are invariably used to justify more and more government legislation, regulation, and intervention, all geared toward expanding government power and restricting our rights. Anyone familiar with the Iron Law of Bureaucracy is not surprised at this; like a cancerous tumor, unwanted growth is the only thing that government agencies do well. See "Pruning the Tree of Liberty" for more on this subject. (Link here)
Medieval serfs owed their owners only 40% of their labor. Right now, the 'average' occupant of these forcibly re-united States pays over 60 percent of his income to various governments, by means of direct and indirect taxation. At least two out of every three dollars you make are being eaten up by government taxes, including the hidden tax of inflation. If you are among the lucky 30 percent of the working population that has a job and pays income tax, you probably pay more than that.
Is that freedom? The chains you wear may not be visible, gentle reader, 148 years after the supposed end of slavery, but you are wearing them nonetheless. At any rate, and without further digression, it is clear that the federal government created by the States in 1791, and given only limited powers delegated by those same sovereign nations, has now become the master of both these same States and the people living in them. The Republic is overthrown in all but name, and we are being increasingly molded into socialist slaves to benefit our masters. The Federal government is hopelessly addicted to power and addicted to squandering our productive capacity, our wealth. The Federal government is a monstrously overgrown power junkie and a deficit spending addict; what makes such an addiction possible?
Thanks to the economic incentives created by the Federal War on (some) Drugs and the overt assistance of the Feds to some of the drug thugs, I know something of the horrors of addiction. One of the most important things that the friends and family of a drug addict must do is to stop enabling the addict. It can be heart-wrenchingly difficult, but one must make the addict face the consequences of their actions. Many friends and family are prone to making excuses for the junkie, and to helping them. These behaviors invariably make the problem worse by allowing the addict to avoid the consequences of their addiction, and they have a name.
Co-Dependence.
So, we come back to the really awkward question, "What makes the Federal addiction to these abuses of power possible?"
You do, gentle reader, or at least many of you who are productive do. By your co-dependence. By your failure to insist that the government stick to the terms of the Constitution. By failing to stand up and speak up about the abuses of the system. By making excuses and mental exceptions for outrageous behavior from those who should be our servants. By befriending those who are actively working for your Federal oppressors. By justifying your own little slurp from the government feeding trough. By failing to develop your personal self-sufficiency. By your failure to shun the jackbooted thugs among us. By continuing to produce and support the parasites who try to suck you dry. Most of all by your implied consent. By these things and many more, you evidence your Progressive Co-dependence, enabling and refusing to acknowledge the addiction that is crushing the life out of you.
Anyone who excuses the murder of innocents in their beds by the police, or any other of the myriad of gross violations of one's rights by the police, is a Progressive co-dependent.
Anyone who fails to speak out against the militarization of the police is a Progressive co-dependent.
Anyone who excuses the utter failure of the Congress to limit the spending of the Federal government is a Progressive co-dependent.
Anyone who fails to shun anybody who works for any of the unConstitutional agencies illegally operating in these presently united States, is a Progressive co-dependent.
Anyone who takes a nickel of unearned money from the Federal government is a Progressive co-dependent.
Anyone who excuses the wanton exercise of military power outside the borders of these presently united States is a Progressive Co-dependent.
Anyone who ignores the reality that is the police state that is replacing the Republic that was is a Progressive co-dependent.
I do not believe that the answer to Progressive codependence is acknowledgement of powerlessness, but rather to recognize that we, the people of these presently united States, are the source of all political power, and that we DO NOT CONSENT to the litany of outrages committed upon us. The first step in solving any problem is admitting that there is one. Most of you, gentle readers, are willing to admit that these presently united States are in deep trouble, but how many of you are willing to admit that YOU are part of the problem? How many of you are, in fact, personally responsible for enabling the growing police state? How many of you are Progressive Co-dependents?
I cannot answer that question for you, O gentle reader. Only you can. Can you? Will you? And once you do, what are you going to do about it? How will you make amends to those who have been injured by your action and by your inaction?
If you have already started moving towards a life that celebrates liberty, what have you done to awaken others? You are judged not by what you think or say, but by what you DO. Your actions demonstrate and define your character. What have you DONE for Liberty lately?
With regard to all who serve the Light, and deep respect to the many people who have done far more than I to resist tyranny and restore Liberty,
Historian
